The Edo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, has taken a major step towards international academic collaboration by hosting Chairman Ling Qidan and members of the council of Fujian Jiangxia University, China, in Benin City.
The high-level engagement explored avenues for joint academic programs, student exchange, and research cooperation between Fujian Jiangxia University and Ambrose Alli University (AAU), with prospects for implementation in the next academic session.
Speaking during the official engagement, Governor Monday Okpebholo expressed excitement about the development, noting that it is a game-changer for the future of education in Edo State.
Also present at the event was the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, who praised the governor’s commitment to the education sector.
“Governor Okpebholo is truly an education-loving leader. This initiative is a bold move that proves his vision is not just for today but for generations of Edo people yet unborn,” Dr. Iyamu stated.
Dr. Iyamu further recalled his recent engagements with the Chinese Consulate, noting that the groundwork for this international collaboration was deliberately laid in pursuit of global opportunities for Edo students.
The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, noted that more opportunities abound for Edo students, as the Government is determined to equip them with the right skills to compete with their peers globally.
“This effort will empower our students to compete favourably on the global stage. It is not just a partnership — it is a bridge to world-class education,” he added.
The proposed collaboration is expected to enhance academic mobility, improve research capacity, and align Edo State institutions with international best practices, particularly in science and technology fields.
