Students and the Principal of Government Science and Technical College, Usugbenu, Irrua, on Tuesday visited Edo State Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, to express gratitude for his intervention in settling the school’s three-year outstanding electricity bill. This support, they said, was crucial to their success at the national level.

The students, who recently placed Second Runner-Up in the National Girls in ICT Competition after winning the South-South competition, credited the restored power for enabling essential practical sessions for their projects.

The students presented their Smart Waste Bin innovation to Dr. Iyamu, a project aimed at improving sanitation through real-time waste monitoring and smart alerts, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honourable Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, also presented tabs and coding items to the students, emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to supporting innovation and technological skills development across the country.

Dr. Iyamu commended the students’ efforts and assured them of continued support from the Edo State Government, reaffirming that education and youth development are priorities under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
