Prominent sons and daughters of the Ijaw ethnic nationality will today, Saturday 4th December, 2021, converge in Yenagoa the Bayelsa state capital for a one-day All Ijaw Summit.

The summit which will hold at the Ijaw House is organized by the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Worldwide.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is expected to grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour, while, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the Deputy Governors of Delta and Rivers State Barr. Kingsley Otuaro and Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry- Banigo will be the guests of honour.

According to the host and President of the INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, Ijaw leader, Pa E. K. Clark will be the father of the day and
His Royal Majesty Justice F. F. Tabai the Pere of Toumo Kingdom in Delta State will be the chairman of the occasion.

Renowned Sociologist and political historian, Prof. Sofiri Joab Peterside will deliver the theme for the summit “The Nigerian State and the Ijaw Question” while
High Chief F. J Williams will speak on Re-defining the Nigerian State and the Ijaw People.

Other speakers are activist, Ms. Ann Kio Briggs; The Imperatives of Ijaw Quest for Self Determination; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and Engr. Charles Ambaiowei; Reforms in Ijaw National Polity; The Need for Self Introspection.

Recall that the INC President had in July, inaugurated a 34-member Central Planning Committee for the summit led by Rear Admiral Wonyengidinikpete Yanga.

Prof. Okaba had stated that the summit would “provide an opportunity for a review of the Ijaw position in the current Nigerian Nation-State and create a platform to articulate a common position on the future of the Ijaw nation.”

He also stated that the summit shall be a convocation of all Ijaws home and abroad to re-define the Ijaw cause and that a declaration of the Ijaw position derived from the summit resolutions shall be made.
