Jeffrey Seigha Ogbudu, a 33-year-old Ijaw scholar from Ogbinbiri Community in Egbema Kingdom, Delta State, has achieved a remarkable academic milestone, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology from Alabama State University, USA.
Dr. Ogbudu began his academic journey at Benson Idahosa University in Edo State, where he earned his associate degree in applied microbiology with distinction. In 2013, he moved to the United States and continued his studies at Alabama State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2016. His perfect 4.0 GPA earned him the prestigious Presidential Honors Award.
After his undergraduate studies, Dr. Ogbudu worked as a microbiologist at the Alabama Department of Public Health. In 2019, he began his Ph.D. studies, quickly establishing himself as a leader by coordinating the EnvironMentors program under the Global Council for Science and the Environment (GCSE). His efforts led to the recruitment and training of several secondary school students, many of whom presented award-winning research at the GCSE National Fair in Washington, D.C.
Throughout his Ph.D. program, Dr. Ogbudu mentored undergraduate students, promoted collaborative research, and received numerous grants and awards, including an outstanding presentation award from the National Institute of Science. His achievements reflect his dedication to academic excellence and leadership.
Chief Ebipade Kari, the Chief Security Officer to Dr. Tompolo, celebrated with Dr. Ogbudu in the United States. He praised him as a proud son of the Ijaw Nation whose accomplishments have brought honor to the Niger Delta region.
