As preparations for the 2019 general election heats-up, Team Ibori for Okowa, a political pressure group championing the second term bid of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State, has inaugurated its Executives in Warri South West Local Government Area of the state.
Performing the inauguration ceremony of the new excos at Bimos Hotel on Thursday 25th January, 2018 was the States Coordinator of the group, Hon. Edmond Guanah who in his welcome address told the gathering that the intention of the group is to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state wins and continue in office beyond 2019.
According to him, the sole mandate of the group is to promote/create awareness about the PDP-led administration in the state, an assignment that has placed a responsibility on all to work relentlessly towards ensuring that Governor Okowa returns to office, come 2019.
Responding to GbaramatuVoice probe on what the group hopes to achieve, Hon. Edmond explained that the group has a very simple mandate, which is to ensure the return of Governor Okowa come 2019.
“The governor had done so well that we decided to come together as a body to support him, encourage him to go for the second term as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He added that the group has done so well electing very competent hands to man the affairs of the body in the local council.
He, therefore, charged the newly inaugurated excos to go back to their various units and work towards bringing back the governor to office in 2019.
On his part, Kingsley George, the newly sworn-in Secretary of the group, while speaking with GbaramatuVoice stated that “the event you are witnessing is a PDP affair,” but added that the Ibori for Okowa pressure group is just a movement within the party.
“Basically, this group cuts across the 25 local councils of the state and it is geared towards achieving a political regeneration within the party.
“It is a way of injecting fresh blood into the political system as some of the old members are getting tired occasioned by old age,” he stated.
