Journalists across the world have been urged to take the occasion of  the 2019 World Press Freedom Day to practice journalism without bias.

Comrade Mulade Sheriff who is a Niger Delta born human rights activist cum environmentalist made this call in Warri, an ancient town in Delta state.

As a United Nations Peace Ambassador, and the National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Sheriff said the call was necessary following the World Press Freedom Day adopted by the United Nations General Assembly since 1993.

He said that the programme observed every May 3 was a sensitisation move to remind groups, government and its agencies and others, of the importance of Free Press.

However, Comrade Sheriff commended journalists across the country but especially those in Delta state for their ethical roles in the sustenance of democracy in the country.

He appreciated their good works during the 2019 general elections, as according to him, which helped in dousing tension that was hyped in the country.

He pointed out the need for journalists to eschew fake news in order to stand out as a people with unflinching honour.

Meanwhile, he charged regulatory bodies such as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to use the occasion to sieve quacks among them.
