NDDC to Commission 10-Kilometre Road in Sapele

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has completed and will soon commission the 10-kilometre Gana Ugberikoko Road in Sapele, Delta State.

Inspecting the road, the NDDC Executive Director Projects, Engr. (Dr.) Samuel Adjogbe, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the project and thanked the community for cooperating with the contractor.

Engr. Adjogbe said: “From what I have seen, the quality of job done is very good and acceptable. My engineers in Delta State office of the NDDC, Warri, have done the evaluation and assessment and the job has been declared completed so that’s the reason I have come to confirm that we can sign off on the project”.

He explained that the 10-kilometre road was executed in four lots, with four different contractors working simultaneously to reduce the disruption on traffic and the inconveniences for the people in the area.

According to the NDDC Executive Director, the Commission would continue to deliver on impactful projects as part of the change agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Engr. Adjogbe further pointed out that the NDDC was set up as an interventionist agency, stating; “the Commission is a regional agency, thus we understand the plight of the people more than any other person, the people should expect more from us and we will continue to do more for the people of the Niger Delta region.”

However, Adjogbe was dissatisfied with the situation at the Orhovwon access Road project in Evwreni, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, where he gave the contractor a 7-day ultimatum to install the NDDC sign posts on the project site. He said that one of the challenges facing the Commission was that of non-identification of the projects.

He added: “Due to numerous complaints and irregularities, the public mistake projects done by NDDC. People no longer appreciate what the NDDC is doing because they don’t know, so I want the public to know that this is an NDDC project.”

In his observation during the inspection of the Gana Ugberikoko Road in Sapele, the Chairman of Sapele Okpe community, Mr. Patrick Akamuvba, applauded the NDDC for a job well done. ]

He said: “With what we are seeing now if the NDDC continues working on all other projects in Sapele and the whole Niger Delta region, I am sure we will not have any problem.”

The supervising engineer for the project, Engr Agara, thanked the Commission and commended the community for their support and cooperation.

According to him; “This is a new Sapele. When we came in and told them about the project, they gave us their full support and cooperation, they were patient despite the traffic problems caused by the project”.

The Councilor Ward 8, Hon Ovo Abeke, also thanked the NDDC noting that the Commission had put smiles on the peoples’ faces.

“This is what development and intervention is all about, when you identify a serious need in the lives of your people and you intervene immediately,” he said.
