…Slam Faceless Critics Over Appointment Process

OKERENKOKO – Staff of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have strongly dismissed recent allegations aimed at discrediting the Governing Council’s appointment of new principal officers.

In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Moses Oghenekome Ogege, Mr. Fine-Boy Doubra, Mrs. Sarah Kattey, Mr. Ossa, and Mr. Alen Igwe, the staff expressed unwavering support for what they described as a transparent and merit-based selection process.

“Their allegations are not only baseless but a disservice to the truth and to the tremendous progress NMU has recorded under the current leadership,” the statement read.

According to the staff, the appointment process began with the Governing Council approving the advertisement of vacant positions, which was subsequently published in two national newspapers and circulated across the university’s official platforms.

A Selection Committee was later constituted alongside the engagement of three independent consultants—each assigned to the positions of Registrar, Bursar, and University Librarian. The consultants, working closely with the committee, conducted rigorous interviews, after which the highest-performing candidates were recommended and duly appointed.

“This process was a model of fairness and due process. It adhered strictly to principles of merit and integrity. One, therefore, wonders what the anonymous authors of these claims consider lacking in transparency,” the staff said.

They added that the university community is satisfied with the appointments and stands in firm support of the Council’s ongoing reforms to reposition NMU for greater excellence.

The staff unanimously passed a vote of confidence on all members of the Governing Council, with special commendation to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Alhaji Abdulahi Bardi, for his visionary leadership.

Condemning attempts to mislead the public and stir discord, the staff reiterated that NMU remains a center of excellence.

”We condemn in the strongest terms the orchestrated attempt to mislead the public and sow discord within our academic environment. NMU is a place of excellence, not a space for baseless propaganda or anonymous blackmail. The progress recorded here is not speculative, it is visible, measurable, and verifiable.

“The Nigeria Maritime University remains committed to its mission of building a world-class maritime institution that serves the needs of the nation and the global maritime industry. We urge the media, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the unfounded publication and continue to support the laudable achievements being recorded under the present Council,” the statement concluded.
