Ex-militants, believed to be beneficiaries of the Amnesty Programme have dragged the Federal Government to a Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over non-payment of their allowances for about two years. Joined in the Civil Rights Suit, registered in FHC/PH/CS/39/2017, are the Accountant General of the Federation, Coordinator of Amnesty Programme, Brigadier-Gen Paul Boroh and Heritage Bank Limited.
The plaintiffs (56 ex-Militants) in the matter are praying the court to urge Amnesty office to recognize them as fully registered beneficiaries of the scheme and pay them all their outstanding allowances.
The ex-militants in the suit want the amnesty office and the Federal Government to declare that they (56 ex-militants) are indeed bonafide members of the programme.
The applicants also in one of their prayers seek that the court should direct the defendants in the suit to pay them all their outstanding allowances in arrears.
When the court sat yesterday, counsel for the applicants, Asobiyata Ojenamah, told the court that respondents in the matter have been duly served all the processes. Ojenamah also disclosed that the plaintiffs have also responded to the preliminary objections raised by the defendants and that they (the respondents) have also been served.
