Conference On  Environment And Peace; CEPEJ Calls On Edo Govt For Partnership

In her bid to rid the nation Nigeria of conflicts and environmental degradation, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ has called on the Edo State Government to partner with them in their forthcoming annual conference on security and the environment.

The group’s National Coordinator, Comr. Sheriff Mulade made this call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki who was ably represented by the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe at the Ministry of Justice.

Speaking during the visit, Comr. Mulade stated that they are in Benin city to discuss their forthcoming international conference, tagged EDO 2017 with the theme; Sustainable Security and Environment in the Niger Delta: A key to Nigeria’s Development.

In his words, “We are here to discuss the upcoming 8th Annual Conference and seek your support in this regard and also affirm our request that your Excellency declares open the Annual Conference that will hold on November 7 and 8 at the Banquet Hall of the University of Benin, Edo state.”

Continuing, the group explained that they selected Benin city as the venue of this conference because of her historic place in the fight for justice and orderliness as was recorded in history. 

Mulade added that they have been following the activities and achievements of the governor in urban renewal, security, and development of Edo state and hence, sincerely wish to tap into this success.

Speaking further, the group pointed out that, “Due to the high profile nature of the expected guests, we request the assurances of Your Excellency to provide security coverage and host the dignitaries especially the Diplomatic Corps and government officials.”

On the need for the conference, CEPEJ explained that they decided to put together this conference to examine the rising tide of environmental degradation and the avoidable perpetuation of poverty in the Niger Delta.

Responding, the Edo State Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Omorogbe assured her visitors and promised to convey their requests as made to the governor.
