CHEVRON DENIES APARTHEID EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES

…says; “we are equal opportunities employers”

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has denied discriminating against its host communities while considering people for employment in its operations.

The company in a statement issued by its General Manager, Policy, Government and public Affairs, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn, said its employment practices is based on the availability of space and needs.

“Chevron is an equal opportunities employer and does not discriminate against anyone based on a race, gender, religion, color, age, ethnicity, disability or any other basis”, the statement states.

“Employment into the company is dependent on organizational needs and business requirements.

“CNL’s effort to sponsor trainees for the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Vocational Training Programme (VTP) was a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative intended to help build the skills and capacity of the participants from the local communities, to be capable of delivering world-class O&M performance in the oil and gas industry.

“With the skills acquired from the programme, several of the participants have been able to get employment within the oil and gas industry.

“CNL did not represent or guarantee that it would hire the trainees at the time of graduation from the programme”.

The company also stated that it will always support its host communities to secure employment with it, as vacancies open up.

“CNL will continue to encourage as many people from the communities around the areas of our operation, who are qualified for employment, to apply to the Company whenever there are vacancies. Unfortunately, these opportunities do not exist right now”.
